Siena - Tour full day (entrance fees to Palazzo Pubblico and the Cathedral not included)

Duration: 6 ore

From: 250.00€

A complete tour to discover the sites which have made Siena famous all over the world.

The tour begins at the Basilica of San Domenico, famous for the precious relics of Saint Catherine, co-patron saint of Italy and of Europe who was born in the very house (now sanctuary) we will visit in the Fontebranda district.

We continue towards the historic center to Siena’s main thoroughfare, the Via Banchi di Sopra. This is the same ancient route of the Via Francigena, travelled by pilgrims and traders for centuries and influencing the fortunes of Siena. We will see Piazza Salimbeni with the palace of the oldest operational bank in the world, the Monte Dei Paschi Bank. Just a few meters further up the same street is Palazzo Tolomei.  The tour proceeds to the heart of the city, the celebrated Piazza Del Campo where the Palio horse race takes place between the city’s “contrade” or districts. Here we’ll visit the Palazzo Pubblico, the civic symbol of Siena, where we can admire the masterworks of Simone Martini and Ambrogio Lorenzetti.  We will climb the Castelvecchio hill to arrive at the majestic Duomo, a triumph of Italian Medieval art. Inside this edifice are housed the works of Michelangelo, Nicola Pisano, Pinturicchio, Donatello and Bernini.
