Siena- tour half day (no tickets)

Duration: 2,30 ore

From: 120.00€

Half day tour (without entrance tickets)

Siena is considered the city which, of all Italy’s cities, has best preserved its typically Medieval appearance.

The tour begins at the Basilica of San Domenico, famous for the precious relics of Saint Catherine, co-patron saint of Italy and of Europe, who was born in this same Fontebranda district.

We proceed from here towards the historic center to the main thoroughfare of Siena, the Via Banchi di Sopra. This is the ancient route of the Via Francigena, which for centuries was travelled by pilgrims and traders influencing the fortunes of Siena.  We will see Piazza Salimbeni with the palace of the oldest, operational bank in the world, the Monte dei Paschi Bank. A few meters further up the same street is Palazzo Tolomei.

The tour continues towards the heart of the city, the celebrated Piazza Del Campo, where the Palio horse race takes place between Siena’s “contrade” or districts. We’ll climb the Castelvecchio hill to arrive in front of the majestic Duomo, a triumph of Italian Medieval art.
