An itinerary to discover the lovely town of Bibbiena, the largest in the Casentino and the principle town in the valley, and the Sanctuary of La Verna, a sacred site tied to Italy’s patron saint, Francis of Assisi. We begin with a tour of Bibbiena and its historical center, with Piazza Tarlati and its beautiful bell tower and Palazzo Bruni with its portico, which was the residence dedicated to saints Hippolitus and Donatus where we will see important artworks including a fifteenth century triptych by Bicci Di Lorenzo. We’ll then arrive at the current municipal palace, Palazzo Niccolini in Via Dovizi, in front of the palace of the same name and the famous Dovizi Theater.  Our visit to Bibbiena concludes with the Church of San Lorenzo where a number of Della Robbia altarpieces are housed. Our next destination is the Sanctuary of La Verna, the site where Saint Francis of Assisi received the stigmata in 1224, a visit to the Sasso Spicco, the Basilica Superiore and the Corridor of the Stigmata.
